Subject: Republican gun control deal?
Reply-To: Dudley.Brown@nationalgunrights.org

Dear Bobby,

Barack Obama and the gun-grabbers in Washington, D.C. want you to believe they can look into their crystal ball and tell you and me -- IN ADVANCE -- who is going to commit a crime.

And a bunch of weak-kneed Republicans and phony pro-gun Democrats are bending over backwards to give in to them.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), and Congressman Scott Rigell (R-VA) are just a few of the names in on the "deal."

I have included an extensive and detailed overview of the all-out fight that's brewing in Congress below.

But I'll tell you up front that leading parts of the "deal" include some of the most radical assaults on our Second Amendment rights you and I have seen in a generation.

First -- massive expansion of government approval and NATIONAL REGISTRATION to buy, sell and trade guns is in the works.

Second -- handing unelected Obama administration bureaucrats the ability to strip the gun rights for ANYONE showing up in an ObamaCare "mental health database" is also "under consideration."

These schemes are bad enough -- which I'll explain in detail shortly . . .

But the worst part of it is you and I can guarantee this will only be the starting point for what Obama and the gun-grabbers will ultimately demand.

The National Association for Gun rights is committed to stopping any and ALL of the gun-grabbers radical schemes.

Like you, I believe "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" means what it says.

But I know every ounce of NAGR's power and effectiveness comes from the support of good folks like you, so I believe it's critical you know exactly what we're facing.

If you and I are going to stand up to the gun-grabbers' assaults, I simply must depend on your help today.

I've created a special No Gun Control Deals Petition I'm counting on you to sign and forward to every pro-gun friend and family member you have.

But first, I want you to understand exactly what we're up against . . .

"So where is this fight over our gun rights headed?"

Bobby, that's the one question I hear most often from close friends and National Association for Gun Rights members and supporters.

Perhaps that question has been on your mind, as well.

After nearly 20 years in pro-gun politics, it's not hard for me to see the battle looming on the horizon.

And recent news reports are only confirming what I've been hearing from Capitol Hill insiders.

Of course, immediately after the December tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, the gun-grabbers began throwing as many anti-gun schemes as they could think up against the wall to see what would stick.

The Feinstein Gun Ban was at the top of the list. And it remains a key part of what gun-grabbers want.

But right now, they are using that as a stick to beat cowardly gun lobbyists and Republicans into surrender on expanded background checks and the mental health database.

Then, they'll be back to pass the Feinstein gun ban.

And, of course, the U.N.'s "Small Arms Treaty" is back on the U.N.'s plate next month, and remains the "Crown Jewel" of Obama's anti-gun agenda.

But with supposedly "pro-gun" politicians from BOTH sides of the aisle fleshing out details of a supposed "common sense deal," the fight is taking shape.

Don't be fooled.

They are preparing to stab you and me in the back.

And I hope you will stand with your National Association for Gun Rights in opposing ALL gun control no matter what some other groups or Republican politicians say or do.

You see, according to news reports, here's what's in store . . .

Expanded or Even Universal "Background Checks"

"We need reasonable restrictions that keep guns out of the hands of criminals."

I'm sure you've heard Senators Dianne Feinstein or Chuck Schumer -- or perhaps even Vice President Joe Biden or President Barack Obama mouthing words like that.

The gun-grabbers' polling shows it works.

What they're not telling you is these "common sense reforms" (i.e. background checks) are key to the creation of a national gun database.

With these background check forms, President Obama and his pals can register, track and trace every firearm in America.

Some supposedly pro-gun Republicans who are pushing a "deal" say you and I shouldn't worry.

They'll simply add a prohibition in the bill's language to make sure no national gun registry is built.

Bobby, they must think you and I were born yesterday.

Do you really trust President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder enough to hand them all the tools they need to create a national gun registry?

This is a President and Attorney General who funneled weapons to bloodthirsty Mexican gangs to drum up an excuse for gun control!

And throughout the country, state-level officials have already been caught red-handed time and again BREAKING THE LAW and using these forms to create databases of gun owners.

Not only that, but recently I heard from one long-time Congressional expert something that made my skin crawl.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) is running around to gun shops nationwide and wholesale copying the background check forms dealers are required to keep on hand.

These forms combined with new federal regulations "encouraging" doctors to ask about firearms ownership and enter the information in "ObamaCare" medical records database ARE being used to create a national gun registry.

Passage of ANY legislation creating more "checks" means more gun registration -- and it will do absolutely NOTHING to keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals.

Criminals DO NOT get their guns legally. You and I both know that.

Like the Connecticut murderer, they often steal them.

So no "background check" scheme will ever guarantee you're safe from criminal attack.

All this will do is hand President Obama and his anti-gun pals every tool he needs to register every firearm in America.

And with the names and guns registered, confiscation is the next step.

New Mental Health "Restrictions" and a National No Gun Database

"Are you crazy?"

That might seem like an odd question, but I'm asking that because you might be -- at least according to President Obama and his anti-gun pals.

Have you have served in the military?

One of the gun grabbers' dreams is to declare anyone who's been exposed to any combat situation as having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Under President Bill Clinton's administration, due to an adjustment in the code regarding mental health, 83,000 vets had their names added to the banned list and never even heard about it until they went to buy their next firearm.

And gun-grabbers make it virtually IMPOSSIBLE for veterans to get their name cleared.

One friend of mine, an Air Force veteran who served in Baghdad, has never been in any trouble with the law, but found out he couldn't buy a gun upon returning from war.

He's spent the last two years trying to get his name cleared and still can't -- meanwhile he has nearly the highest level security clearance the federal government hands out.

Tens of thousands of veterans from all over the country have similar stories.

But Bobby, if you haven't served in the military, have you ever experienced a traumatic family situation -- like perhaps a death in the family?

If you're prescribed anything at all -- or even if you complain of stress to the wrong person -- that could be enough for you to lose your Second Amendment rights.

"ObamaCare," once again, will be the vehicle for building the gun-grabbers' National No Gun Registry.

And they'll use virtually any excuse they can conjure up to put as many Americans as possible on the list.

In fact, former Surgeon General Steven Galson estimated that 46.4% of Americans experience some sort of mental illness during their lives!

Don't think for a second the gun-grabbers aren't aware of that statistic . . .

To the gun-grabbers, disarming half of America with a simple mental health database within a year or two's time sounds like a dream come true.

Of course, no one wants to run into a madman with a gun.

There are laws already on the books to adjudicate truly deranged people bent on committing murder.

But adjudicated is the key word.

Any effort to strip any American of their God-given rights -- including the right to keep and bear arms -- MUST be properly adjudicated before a judge allowing due process.

Handing some Obama administration bureaucrat the power to strip American citizens of their Second Amendment rights on a whim is a recipe for DISASTER!

"Can We Possibly Win?"

Once I explain to folks exactly what we're facing, the next question I often get is, "Do we even stand a chance."

I don't hesitate in giving the answer.

"YES!"

I don't say it's going to be easy. It's not.

You and I are going to have to massively increase the heat on members of Congress.

That's why it's so critical you sign your No Gun Control Deals petition IMMEDIATELY.

And if you could just chip in with a contribution of $10 or $20, it could make a tremendous impact, as well.

You see, my goal from the beginning has been to make sure as many Second Amendment supporters as possible understand EXACTLY what we're up against and stare the FACTS straight in the face.

That's why over the past several weeks I've done everything possible to ensure -- while it may not be a fun subject to revisit -- you are 100% aware of the NRA's track record when it comes to playing into the gun-grabbers' hands.

Make no mistake. Supposedly pro-gun Republicans in Congress want to "cut a deal."

Just like they have on so many other issues, establishment politicians just want the Second Amendment issue to go away.

And members of BOTH parties want to go into the next election being able to say two things:

1) "After Newtown, something had to be done. So I took action."

2) "The bill didn't really hurt gun rights that much, so you can't come after me. The NRA signed off on it."

In order to get what they want, members of BOTH parties -- including the GOP Congressional leadership -- are working feverishly on a "compromise" bill they're hoping the NRA will endorse.

NRA "A-rated" Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) admitted as much a few weeks ago, saying:

"I'm working on a bill right now with other Senators — Democrats and Republicans . . . I'm working with the NRA, to be honest with you, and talking to them."

The news that Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) and others are working on a "bipartisan" bill to include both expanded "background checks (gun registration) and "mental health" provisions is likely part of that scheme.

Similarly, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor told CNN's Dana Bash on February 5 he plans to play right into Obama's hands and "beef up the database for background checks."

And Congressman Scott Rigell (R-VA) has teamed up with notorious anti-gun Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) to introduce H.R. 452, which would effectively FORCE law-abiding gun owners to register their firearms with the government under the guise of fighting "gun trafficking."

But the truth is, gun trafficking is the LAST thing Congressman Rigell cares about!

He was one of only two Republicans to vote AGAINST holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for the "Fast and Furious" scandal.

I hope the NRA won't be cowed by the gun-grabbers in Washington, D.C.

But regardless of what the NRA does, you can be sure of one thing . . .

The National Association for Gun Rights will stand strong for your Second Amendment rights no matter what.

Already, we've launched a massive campaign turning up the heat on Senators Manchin, McCain and Coburn.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Scott Rigell (R-VA) are getting the heat turned up on them, as well.

We're the leading pro-gun group out there making sure politicians -- regardless of party -- understand that working against our gun rights means sure political PAIN.

As far as I'm concerned, ANY politician who is even thinking about supporting any scheme to undermine our gun rights needs to hear one message loud and clear . . .

VOTE AGAINST OUR GUN RIGHTS AND LOSE YOUR JOB.

That's our line in the sand.

If you agree, please sign your No Gun Control Deals petition IMMEDIATELY.

And if you can, chip in just $10 or $20 to help in this critical fight.

The National Association for Gun Rights will not pull the wool over any Second Amendment supporters' eyes.

We will NOT "sign off" on some anti-gun compromise that ramps up gun control so politicians can look good in the liberal media.

And ANY politician who votes to expand gun control in America is going to have hell to pay at the hands of American gun owners at the ballot box.

PERIOD.

You can take that to the bank.

For Freedom,

Dudley Brown
Executive Vice President

P.S. Anti-gun bills are being finalized in Congress, and members of BOTH parties are working on a bill to massively expand gun control in America.
