  1. Joint Leadership Team Web Poll

About 40 percent of our employees participate, or would like to participate, in a mentor or protégé relationship. You should try it. It's a great way to learn quickly. I also learned that no one likes a know-it-all, not even Bullwinkle Moose. This week I was listening to the radio on the way into JSC and heard some interesting stuff. It was on 1690 AM on my radio dial. What do you think I was listening to? Country? Alternative? Talk radio? I also heard that the Texas State Fair had selected the winner of this year's fried food contest. I've picked a few of my favorite entries from the state fair and would like you to vote on the all-time-favorite fried food. Chicken batter your Oreo on over to get this week's poll.

  1. Morpheus Takes Off Today

Morpheus is planning an exciting ground takeoff and land tether test of the "Bravo" vehicle today. The test will be streamed live on JSC's UStream channel. View the live stream and progress updates sent via Twitter.

Test firing is planned for approximately 1 to 2 p.m. The live stream will begin approximately 45 minutes before ignition.

Today's test will include increased risks and, as a reminder, on-site viewers should stay back by Building 14 or Building 18 and not enter the field during operations.

NOTE: Testing operations are dynamic; actual firing time may vary and tests may be postponed with short notice. Follow Morpheus on Twitter @MorpheusLander, or view the feed from our website for updates.

  1. Monthly Test of the JSC Emergency Warning System

The Emergency Dispatch Center and Office of Emergency Management will conduct the monthly first Thursday test of the JSC Emergency Warning System (EWS) today at noon.

The EWS test will consist of a verbal "This is a test" message, followed by a short tone and a second verbal "This is a test" message. The warning tone will be the "wail" tone, which is associated with an "All clear" message. Please visit the JSC Emergency Awareness website for EWS tones and definitions. During an actual emergency situation, the particular tone and verbal message will provide you with protective information.

   Jobs and Training

  1. Training Required for Admin Rights - MEP

NASA is implementing Managed Elevated Privileges (MEP) on all IT devices to reduce the security risks. Everyone who needs elevated privileges (admin rights) must take training courses via SATERN by searching for "Elevated Privileges on NASA Information Systems" (ITS-002-09).

Deployment of these new policies will happen in various stages, and your organizations will be notified in advance before they are scheduled for deployment. Once implemented, beginning in Oct., NASA end users will not be granted administrative rights to NASA IT resources without training and authorization. Please take appropriate actions to be sure you get your training and testing done before we start to deploy.

Additional information can be found here.
