Ast. Ross in safety magazine (spacesafetymagazine.com) talks about shuttle safety issues. He is happy the unsafe ( his words) program is over. One can debate the major system makeup of shuttle system, BUT regardless the shuttle could have been operated more safely IF proper attention were given to documented issues. System improvement, & operational changes (automating) would have improved overall reliability.
Even Ross is critical of present cots & SLS approach.
Whether you like it or not Allen Richardson in the case to save the shuttle is correct, a new vehicle which would perform shuttle functions will look like shuttle!!!
So , Mr Ross glad you are pleased shuttle in museum. With some leadership , shuttle could still be flying. In the end the USA suffers. I am not pleased.
