  1. 13 Days of Safety - Day 5: Safe Bicycling

Pointers to remember about bicycling safely at JSC:

    • Yield and watch out for all pedestrians
    • When approaching walking pedestrians, alert them by bell or an audible
    • Always look out for approaching cars, trucks, trams, motorcycles and other moving vehicles
    • Check bicycles for safety (tire pressure, screws and bolts secure, seating, etc.) before riding
    • When riding on JSC roads, travel with the traffic and not against the traffic - per JSC security

  1. JSC Children's S&H Calendar Contest Starts Today

Don't miss this great opportunity to teach your kids about safety and health in a creative way by entering their drawing in the 2014 Children's Safety and Health Calendar Contest. They could be one of 36 winners who will receive their very own T-shirt imprinted with their drawing. And, the most fun of all is the annual award party held in January, to which each winner and his or her family members are invited. Pick up an entry form today at any of the following buildings: 3, 4S, 8, 11, 12, 13, 16, 30, 45, the JSC Child Care Center or Gilruth Center. You can also call x45078 to obtain an entry form. All JSC civil service and contractor employees are eligible to sponsor a child -- their own or an acquaintance's. The deadline for entries is Friday, Nov. 22.

  1. Orchestrating Through the Unknown Case Study

Orchestrating Through the Unknown: How Cufflinks Saved the Space Station.

Some call it their Apollo 13 moment, others say it was just plain fun, and for a few, they consider it the experience of a lifetime. How did the experts figure out that something as simple as a high-tech cufflink could be the solution for a torn solar array on the International Space Station? Find out yourself by checking out the P6 Solar Array Cufflink Repair Case Study.

Consider what lessons we can take away from this effort and apply to our own tasks. While you are there, please take the time to give us your feedback. Also, we would like your suggestions for potential topics. Share your idea here.
