Still don't get it
The shuttle or equivalent capability is desparately needed by the USA. The shuttle termination or replacement designs are rarely discussed by congress people. Their are multitude of reasons for the USA maintaining this capability. Many are directly related to the defense of the USA. Cost & safety were big issues. Look at the money we essentially throw in the trash in stupid programs & foreign aid. Re: Colburn report. Safety issues with proper management attention could have been corrected & will be in new design. But any program of this nature will have safety issues. Attention to problems & proper corrective action is the answer.
Considering the interest in the orbiter fly bys, and the obvious unique capability of the shuttle concept, very strange that their isn't more outrage over trashing this amazing vehicle without developing a replacement vehicle of equivalent capability. Interesting, of those who thought highly of the program, most seem to have minimum interest in getting new design in work.
Sure hate to see our capability squandered for no valid reason. As George Jeffs said, fear of another country's capability will be required to get the USA 's Capability back.
