We had excellent space operations capability with the shuttle 's large payload bay, the mmu, RMS, airlocks, suits /Eva capability, but this adm has discarded it in favor of commercial crew with will not achieve this capability for decades, if ever. At a minimum, shuttle should have been kept operational until the new systems were online. The USA has spent a lot of money and time developing this capability---now gathering dust in museum. Bolden/Garver/bho were responsible for this which is tragic for America as is the border situation. GW Bush is also responsible. Listen to Cernan's analysis of situation on genecernan.com
I don't understand it, surely Bolden a former shuttle commander understands what is best for America!
Additionally, where is the media , both liberal & conservative, for an event as significant as the destruction of a world renown capability, placing assets like Hubble & ISS in jeopardy, you expect some significant reporting regarding the capability we are losing. But, very few TV specials, fox had one or two, very unaggressive , NYPost had a story by Herman---shuttle close is a retreat .
